  • What’s being done to reduce harmful bias or incorrect assumptions
  • And whether it’s doing what it’s supposed to—not just what it can

1. You can’t trust what you don’t understand

Okay… why?

If your downstream workflows depend on AI recommendations—who to call, which headline to test, which offer to push—then not knowing what informed those results is like driving with your eyes half-open.

It's different from transparency (the principle). Explainability is the method. Examples:

  • Visual charts that show what data points contributed to a decision
  • Score breakdowns (“this user clicked 3 times, spent 5 min on pricing, and shared 2 keywords with closed-won leads”)
  • Plain-language summaries

2. Governance

This is your AI parent-guardrails. Governance is the set of policies and rules that ensure your AI systems are behaving right, regularly assessed, and not changing under the hood without oversight.

If you built a Smart Lead Router, you should have a way to ask—monthly, quarterly—“Is this still routing fairly? Are any segments being over-prioritized or ignored?”

3. Accountability

Who’s responsible when the AI goofs? Or says something it shouldn’t? Or unfairly demotes one lead over another?

Transparency frameworks need assigned roles. Someone (in-house or out) must be answerable—and that means keeping documentation, reviewing performance, and flagging edge cases when they happen.

Big Myth: “Transparency” = “Just Show Me the Code”

You’re not debugging TensorFlow scripts.

Transparency = making behavior + logic documentable and reviewable. Even if the model’s internal workings are complex or non-linear, the outputs and inputs should still make business sense. If they don’t? That model's not ready for primetime decisions.
